This unique place, full of history and of a special atmosphere, could not remain neglected... A prison, in operation from 1867 to 2009, closed for more than 10 years, the former jail, nicknamed "the castle" by the people of Béziers, is now giving way to our home away from home.
The MANDO team and the A+ Architecture agency have strived during their reflection to preserve the memory of the building, transforming it into a multifunctional space with its welcoming table for tourist and local customers. Thus, the old walkway, the courtyard dedicated to the walk and the cells were redesigned to accommodate 3 seminar rooms, a small boutique, a restaurant, a swimming pool and a hotel with 50 rooms.
Metamorphosing such a monument gave us the opportunity to express our perception of the world, both architectural and human, while respecting the place. We wished to combine an art of living and a way of being, to mix architecture, decoration, art, craftsmen's know-how, gastronomy, wine and well-being.
Once a symbol of deprivation, this place is now an invitation to travel with spaces dedicated to business as well as to moments of pleasure.
